AIM
The aim of LeCardo is to make compounds or
idiomatic phrases, e.g. bedside, break-in, time out etc. As in the
examples above, hyphenation and spacing are allowed. Each compound /
phrase made must be in relatively common use and must be agreed on by
all players.
METHOD OF PLAY
The pack is shuffled, and each
player is dealt seven cards. The players then cut the deck and the
player with the highest value card begins. Thereafter, play goes
clockwise. The remaining cards are placed face down on the table. Each
player takes turns to form compounds using the cards in their hand.
Cards may be placed anywhere on the emerging grid, as long as they
match with another card either left to right or downwards,
e.g.

A card must form a compound with any card which it is placed next to.
If a square is formed, the cards must match on all four sides. A
player's turn ends when he/she has announced his/her score, and
refilled from the stack so that he/she still has seven cards. If a
player cannot go, he/she may replace up to three cards from his/her
hand, after which he/she loses a turn. If no players are able to move,
the game ends. Once a card has been deployed, it cannot be moved or
retracted. A word may be challenged at any time, and, if the challenge
is successful, the player concerned must pick up the disputed cards.
The game ends when all the cards have been deployed, and one player has
got rid of all of his/her cards. Alternatively, players may choose to
continue until all cards have been deployed.
SCORING
Scores
are calculated after each move, and are produced by adding together the
value of all compounds made. Where two or more compounds are formed
with the same card, the points for that word are added according to the
number of compounds made. At the end of each game, the scores for each
player are totalled up, minus the value of any cards remaining in the
player's hand.
